• A monster eyeball glares at you because of two different polymers.  A polymer is made from identical molecules hooked together in a long chain like identical box cars in a long train.  One part is water-loving (hydrophilic) and the other is water-fearing (hydrophobic).  The first part is superabsorbent and grabs as much water as it can.  The second part ignores the water completely and holds onto its monstrous shape so that the water-logged polymer can still be recognized for the ghoulish organ this gooey, gelatinous mass resembles: a disembodied eyeball!  Don't stare - it's rude.
